7-8th started out our Monster Party by drawing a monster that later will become clay. Students had so much fun getting our minds in a monster mood. Have to say this is one of my favorite weeks in the art room. Monstrous fun!!! And of course we played some "Monster Mash"music to get our creativity in the mood.

Mrs. Nadeau's Class did a great job learning about the Japanese culture. We learned about the "Great Wave" painting, Japanese Cherry Blossoms, and other exciting elements. They did a great job doing a watercolor wash over their detailed designs, then coloring them with colored pencils. We added recycled cardboard for the ends, and even made our own tassels. What a fun project and they did such a great job!!
Students learned how to take a hue and mix tints and shades for their background blending as they went. Then they designed a silhouette to add to their background. They are all different and turned out beautifully. Students loved this project and 4th-8th participated in this project.
Very excited to find out an artist we saw in Europe was featured in a local gallery in Walnut Creek. "The Art of the Brick" is AMAZING! If you love legos and art you have the perfect kid friendly exhibit. If you see the red dress above it was made entirely of legos from the picture of the model wearing the red dress. My friend Amy and I had to take a selfie with the lego man. What a fun exhibit and I wish we had the lego to make something like this for our art show. What fun!

We did!!! We took advantage of a rainy day and painted in the rain. Students used white crayons for resist, water color pencils, and Crayola markers to make a rainy day drawing. Then the fun began...we went outside and put them in puddles on the ground and with the help of the rain our masterpieces were created. Students loved the look of our "rain painted" art and thought the markers gave the boldest colors. Best comment of the day, "Mrs. Goble I can't wait for it to rain again, and I can show my family how to paint in the rain!"
Students had fun with this one day lesson. They drew a tree and filled in the branches and trunks with black oil pastel. Then the areas in the background were colored in with bright colored oil pastels. We talked about positive and negative space and used up all those tiny bits of oil pastels we had in a bucket in the art room. Great results in one class session.
