This was my first pottery attempt and it worked out great! The kiln at our school hadn't been used in years so as a long term sub I took the risk and tried it. With the help from staff at the school and a local pottery teacher (Erin), I had all the information I needed to brave turning it on. It was easy and not one piece was broken in my first kiln firing. Everyone was very excited and of course I was glad that I didn't burn down the school. Yeah!! The students enjoyed glazing their pots, but due to my short stay at that school, I didn't have time to fire them again. I decided to spray them with a high gloss clear, make sure if you do this no students are around and you wear a mask and have good ventilation. The kids were very excited the week we did pottery and I had 100% attendance - a first!! |
